Update: I called Importeuro here in Schertz TX. My folks took their Mercedes to the dealer and they also did I diagnosis for free. I went to the VW dealer last year and they did a diagnosis on some mechanical issues for free. I did not do that and called another Audi dealer and told him I needed a crankshaft sensor replaced and they gave me the $670 quote. Seriously? I mean it is refunded in the repair if you choose their service but still.
I wanted to know if he came to the same conclusion. On a side note, I did not tell the dealer ahead of time that I already had a VCDS scan performed. Did you have yours replaced at the dealer and what did it cost you? I imagine thats for the multiple hours of labor to get to it which i dont really feel like doing. He wants around $670 to replace this part.

But if I wanted to buy one Google only wants to sell me a crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. Ross-Tech VCDS ® is a powerful 'virtually dealer level' PC / laptop based diagnostic tool for Volkswagen, SEAT, Skoda and Audi cars and light vans (Note: VCDS used to be called VAG-COM). So where is the engine speed sensor located? As an intermittent signal I understand it may only need cleaning, which I was going to try first. A friend with VCDS ran a scan and said it is the engine speed sensor. It takes anywhere from 3 to 10 tries to start it. It has a difficult time starting when the engine is warm, as if you drove it for a while, stopped and went shopping for 15 min, came back, and tried to start it again. The Audi forum is kinda dead so I am posting here.
